Free Legal Assistance guarantees that everyone can defend their interests in a legal process even without having the economic means to pay for it. This includes fees for the lawyers, experts, entries in the Official Gazettes etc.
Those persons who request assistance must prove a lack of economic means. The procedures must also be considered legally viable.
Spanish nationals, other European Union nationals and foreign nationals with legal status can request this assistance (however, having such legal status is not necessary for criminal trials or procedures to do with asylum requests and the Law on Foreign Nationals).
